SOUNDING OUT:
His Good Promise

What great anticipation filled the hearts of the twelve as they assembled in one accord in the temple waiting for the promise of the Father.  They were not disappointed because God did as He promised.  God in His Word guaranteed that neither will we be disappointed in our expectation (Romans 10:11).  God never makes a promise He does not intend to keep.  When the Promiser speaks, we can rest upon His Words for He will do all that He promises.

I Kings 8:56:
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

I was amazed this morning as I started to read through the 117 times in the King James Version that some form of the word promise occurs.  Time after time I read “as He promised,” or “as the Lord God of thy Fathers hath promised.”  God promised and performed.  Our expectation should be established by His promise.  The more we appreciate the integrity of God and His ability and willingness to perform His promises the more certainty and assurance we will find in our walk with Him.  How often have you reminded God of His good promise to you?  [Not that He ever needs the reminder, but we do?]

Psalm 119:49:
Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

Whatever your need may be, you may readily find some promise in the Bible suited to it.  Find it; lay hold on it; claim it as God’s personal will for you.  Are you faint because the going is tough, and you feel powerless to affect change?  Here’s a promise to claim:

Isaiah 40:29:
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

When you read a promise like that, take it back to the great Promiser, and ask him to fulfill His word for you.  Take that promise to God over and over again with this reminder:  “Father, You said it; do as You have said.”  When our plead echoes His promise, it will never return void.
Remember the man at the Temple Gate Beautiful?  He gave heed to Peter and John expecting to receive something.

Acts 3:5:
And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

Let’s give heed to God and expect to receive exactly what He has promised.  Let’s remind ourselves of His promise and set our earnest expectation and hope upon it.  Abraham was a friend of God who judged Him faithful to His promise (Romans 4:20,21).  Let’s develop our friendship, too, and do the same.
