The more I read the Bible,
and the more I meditate upon it, the more I am amazed
with it. The casual reader of the Bible, does not know
the breadth, length, height, and depth of the beauty
and grandeur contained in its pages. But it takes more
than just careful observation. There is a reverence
required if we are to mine the real truths of the scriptures.
Part of the greatness of God's Word resides in the relationship
it reveals to the reader about the Author and develops
for the reader with the Author, God.
These exceeding great and precious promises of
which II Peter Chapter one speaks, are the means by
which we escape the corruption of the world and partake
of God's divine nature. There are certain times when
I read something for the NTH time and it's like I never
read it before. David said in Psalm 119:18, ‘Open
thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out
of thy law.’ This prayer has been hot on my heart
for about two years now. When I read an old scripture
and discover a new way of looking at it or a new vein
of thought regarding it, I am most utterly blessed.
I’ve always been amazed and thrilled by
what God has said. Today, as I sat down to write this
I thought about ‘what God has not said.’
What God says and what people say God says are frequently
two very different things. Trouble is immanent when
we believe that God has said what He has not declared.
For sure, if God hath spoken something it shall surely
come to pass (Numbers 23:19). But, what if God says
that He has never said something.
The scriptures are full of strength to endure
and comfort (Romans 15:4). I have also found much consolation
and strengthening in considering WHAT GOD HAS
SAID THAT HE HAS NOT SAID.
Isaiah 45:19:
I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the
earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me
in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things
that are right.
God wants His Word and
will known. That’s why He spoke it. That’s
why He had it written down. We can count on the Word
of God because He speaks righteously that which is right.
If He declares something, it is true and reliable altogether.
How dare we ever think we seek God in vain... that His
ears are closed to our prayers… that He does not
care what happens to us. God has so clearly, so righteously,
so faithfully spoken. There should be no doubt.
The best time to seek Him is NOW.
Isaiah 55:6-11: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found,
call ye upon him while he is near:
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD,
and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for
he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your
ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are
my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than
your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven,
and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and
maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed
to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth:
it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish
that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it.
Man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of
the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). These words are not
boomerangs. They don’t return to God without having
an impact, an effect that He desires. When we seek Him
with our whole hearts we will never be disappointed.
Psalms 119:2
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that
seek him with the whole heart.
It is never vain to seek
the Lord. We pursue Him in His Word. What a great adventure
lay ahead. It is as if the Scriptures enlarge as we
enter them. The more we study them the more they widen
out as we approach them. What appears first as a volume
of only about 1500 pages, unfolds like a road map and
leads us to the very heart of our Father, God. Enjoy
your journey!
